Description

As a practical matter, the Shattered Sword seek to locate and confront our enemies as far as possible from those we seek to protect. This means that a high percentage of our battles take place in lonely, remote areas or in the void of space. The Peers developed the Castellan as a vacuum-capable, armoured exoskeleton for use as a space-based assault mecha, specifically for boarding actions. It has served admirably in that role for nearly a century.

The soldiers chosen to drive these machines are bold – often to the point of recklessness – and thoroughly schooled in the use of shock tactics, fully utilising the awe their mecha inspires. Yet, pilots are not selected only from those who have ascended to the higher disciplines. Instead, the mecha’s entirely robotic capabilities allow us to select pilots from any discipline, even those that would not normally be considered for combat duty. There is no shortage of renowned pilots whose skill lies not in their sword arm but in their quick wit and deft technological insight.

Fully seven independent and redundant systems allow the pilot to continue operating a damaged Castellan, allowing for remarkable survivability of both warrior and machine in so hostile an environment. It seems every cycle brings new stories of a Castellan blasted beyond recognition limping back to a friendly ship or facility, its pilot hurt but alive. The legendary survivability combines with the mech’s impressive armour and weapons to make the Castellan one of the most popular and most requested war machines in the Shattered Sword’s arsenal.

Even in the close confines of shipboard combat, the Castellan performs well. Despite its bulk, its humanoid form allows it to navigate through a ship’s often tight corridors. Its armour is proof against most hand-held weapons, and its broad shield allows it to act as mobile cover for the paladins accompanying it. As a vanguard element then, the Castellan is a common and fearsome sight, breaking the hulls of ships and storming through defenders like a raging giant.

Shiny Games says about the Castellan

The Castellan is a giant robot suit, the quintessential mecha of Relic Knights, with all the knightly aspects you’d expect from the Shattered Sword faction. In the game it has similar abilities to the smaller Paragons, including flight and thruster boosts, but is the size and can take the damage of two Paragons put together. The main difference is that the Castellan has an Overcharge attack, enabling it to get past all defences that don’t have Overcharge themselves. It’s other melee attack has feint, which means it can move after it’s attack to outmanoeuvre the opposition. Unlike the Paragon it has no ranged attack, but does have a guard ability to protect itself which the Paragons sorely lack. Most of all, the Castellan is a huge miniature than will cause fear in your opposition far in excess of the game stats it possesses.
