Strike on Kar’A Nine is a new introductory set for Beyond the Gates of Antares. It contains forces for both the Algoryn and the Concord, plus everything you need to get started with the game; dice, rules, templates, a fold-out battle mat and cut-out terrain are all there!

The full colour Getting Started book is designed to coach you through, making your first steps as exciting and as simple as possible, with a series of scenarios that gradually introduce the mechanics of the game. Each scenario introduces new rules, culminating in a final battle using everything in the box where you will be able to use all you have learnt.

Featuring the new plastic Algoryn troops and providing great value, the contents offer the core components for players to start or expand either their Concord or Algoryn forces for larger games.

Strike on Kar’A Nine provides a great new way to get into Beyond the Gates of Antares. While the game already has a Starter Set, which provides what you need to get started, this new introductory set has some distinct advantages for new players:

• It is roughly half the price of the starter – you get less troops, but plenty to learn the game with.
• The whole product is geared towards teaching the game, rather than the brief introductory booklet (good as it was) in the starter set.
• You get a smaller, more portable A5 rulebook rather than the full hardback A4; This will be much more portable to take out to games.
• It includes Algoryn troops rather than Ghar battle armour, which are a more typical force to learn the game with.
• This set includes a paper battle mat and 2-dimensional terrain. While you’re probably not going to use these long-term, it’s good to have the recommended terrain for learning the game.

While the rulebook does contain all the rules required for a full game of Antares, it does not include army lists, unit statistics or background information. There are online army list creators that can overcome this to some degree. However, if you like the game you will probably want to get the full rulebook at some point. Even so, if you add the price of the hardback rulebook to this set, you’ve still spent less than the Starter’s cost. It is likely that many existing players will want to get this introductory set just for the mailer rulebook too!
