Aspirant

Description

Those who prove themselves adaptable and independent of mind either rise among the ranks of the swordsworn or else qualify to become an aspirant. Clever, self-reliant, and sometimes wildly improvisational, aspirants are dispatched to areas that require a paladin presence but do not merit a full deployment.

When called into action with larger numbers of paladins, commanders often give aspirants a freer hand, simply assigning them an objective without dictating the ways and means of achieving it. This plays to their strengths while providing the commander with a wild card that enemies find difficult to handle. More than warriors or arbiters of justice, however, aspirants are ambassadors in a larger sense than any other martial members of the Order. Their assignments take them deep into strange territory far from the centres of galactic civilisation. Negotiation is as much their stock and trade as violence. Successful aspirants  must be strong of mind and character, as well as nimble and resilient of body.
