We’ve been trying to adapt to changes in EU customs and safety regulations for some time now, which has meant closing the webstore to EU customers for long periods of time more than once. Most recently, we did so because we were being charged high fees that in some cases were almost as much as the value of the delivery to ship to some EU countries. Now the situation has become even worse.
GPSR Phase 2
On Wednesday, 12th August 2026, the second phase of the General Product Safety Regulations comes into effect. This involves even more bureaucracy, including getting a representative in each EU country that you sell to. This is simply not affordable for small companies, even if we still had the same levels of EU orders we had prior to Brexit. Therefore the only solution is for us to permanently stop shipping to EU customers. This isn’t a step we take lightly, but there doesn’t seem to be any other choice. It does seem that many of these new requirements are specifically designed to stop smaller companies trading.
So why is this Urgent?
Despite our current problems with having to pay high charges to ship to EU customers, we’ve reopened the webstore to EU customers. We have added a £2 additional charge to account for the new flat fee per product type we have to pay, but we’ll take care of the other charges, even if that means we make a loss on some orders. This can only last for the next two days, so we can ship all orders out before the new regulations come into force. After that we will no longer be able to ship into the EU at all—at least not until there’s a significant change in these regulations.
The bottom line is this—if you live in the EU or associated areas, you have two full days to make any purchases you want from Shiny Games. After that, we can no longer send orders to you.
